Delkevic Baffles Fitted

Suzi had the new baffles fitted today. Good job I checked her into Cheriton Motorcycles as there were problems.

One of the small exhausts had lost the crossbar to pull it out. Another of them had broken inside.

Both needed a tool made up with an ezy-out to pull the broken bits out.

Something I wouldn't have managed in a year of Sundays!

In the end all sorted and the new ones are all nice and shiny.

Won't last long!  But now I have new ones I can keep a check on them!

Delkevic Baffles

I have decided to offload the job to Vince at Cheriton Motorcycles.

Maybe laziness but also that the job needs doing properly. That means the right tools!

I think as well as removing the existing coked and oiled up baffles the pipes themselves will need the crap cleaned out. A dose of caustic soda or something like that.

I forgot they were closed on a Saturday when I went on the way home from the station. I have dropped them an email.

All booked in for May 3rd. Hopefully that will give the old girl a new lease of life and open up her lungs a bit...

Suzi is Home Again!

After her spa break with Vince at Cheriton Motorcycles I brought Suzi home at around 5pm today.

The work done has cost me another £110 on top of all bills that I have covered since August 2020 when we trailered her up to Phil in the Midlands.

Vince has cleaned the rust out of the tank, ultrasonic cleaned the tap and the carbs. fitted an inline filter and replaced the original super fuel in the tank after filtering the crap out of it. Carbs rebalanced...

When I went to get her, Suzi was ticking over outside the workshop. A regular beat at 1400 revs. She rode like a dream all the way home.

I am dubious about E10 fuel and so I filled the tank with E5 Super Uunleaded.  The oil companies taking the piss with this grade selling it at 7p a litre more than 95 E10 Unleaded. Odometer reading 75752.5.

Even with tall the fuel draining and running onthe bench Fuelly still worked the mpg out to 32!

She is back.

End mileage:

Once back I moved Mr Baloo onto Suzi.

He has been with us from 2004 when he crossed the Channel illegally from France, stowed away on the beak of the GS.

Suzi is only the fourth bike he has been installed on in a place looking where we are going.

Suzi still at Cheriton Motorcycles

Contacted Vince today to see how they are getting on. All back together

Needs some testing before it will come back.

They have also tightened up a few bolts including the exhausts. It had lost one completely. One of my expensive stainless steel ones that is. It must have gone AWOL on the ride up to the shop as my jeans had oil spatter on the left lower leg!

Fingers crossed for next week to have it back and running as it should.

At Cheriton Motorcycles

Last night I turned the idle speed up a little to make sure that when arriving at a junction that the engine would maybe bog down but not stall.  Seems a little success to an idle speed of 2000rpm isn't healthy.

The short ride to Cheriton went off okay.  I avoided the motorway and had to run the gauntlet of two schools where the traffic is usually horrendous.  Kids around here don't seem to walk to school like I did! Despite a plethora of double-yellow lines (no parking at any time) the kerbs are chock full of cars.  Today only about half chock!

I made it all the way without a single stall but the hairpin turn at the top od Sandgate Hill into Coolinge was a worry but the engine kept running.

I talked over the problem with the guys at Cheriton Motorcycles and it looks as though the problem is with the pilot jets and the carbs.  They'll clean them out and fit an inline filter as well as check the tank out and clean and seal that if needs be.  I expect the new fuel tap will be gunged up again.

So it's finger crossed.

Cheriton Motorcycles

Suzi booked into Cheriton Motorcycles on July 2nd for a look at the carbs and the tank.

I'll see if they can fit an inline filter at the same time.

With the classic bike night cancelled from June 24th to July 22nd it means I can have it fixed and maybe feel confident riding on the road.

After all the work done on it, it's annoying that something that was curable has caused this problem.
